On the Craft of Patient Feedback

Marking well asks for two kinds of patience: the patience to read carefully, and the patience to craft responses that are clear enough to be useful. We built MarkMate to support both—quietly, without distracting you from the work itself.

This journal gathers the notes we keep while designing tools for educators: how we think about clarity, how we keep data handling deliberate, and why we pay attention to the small rituals of everyday teaching.

The virtue of a narrow page

There is a reason the printed page is narrow: it slows the reader to a humane pace. On screen, a restrained column restores that cadence. When the line length is short, it is easier to hear your own thoughts and return to the text with care.
